Partaaaaaaayyyy(s)
April 11, 2011This year I decided to do 2 parties for the girls in one day. First, was the late morning tea party with friends and then the family party in the late afternoon. I have say, I really liked how the day turned out. I was able to hang out with friends and be able to have a few conversations and then take a nap/watch tv, get ready for the next party and hang out with the family a little later. I guess this isn’t really supposed to be about how my day went…So, the girls had a tea party in the morning. They have both been looking forward to their birthday parties for weeks. And when the party day finally arrived they did not disappoint in the excitement department. When I came out dressed in a brides maid dress that I had on hand, Kyla says to me “Oh Mommy, you are beautiful”. This made my day and I think I might just start dressing up every day just to hear I’m beautiful from my girls. Preparation for the party took place the 2 weeks prior to the big day. This was a girl and boy tea party so we went all out for the boys too. While girls wore their boas, necklaces and bracelet, the boys sported neckties (hand made by me and my momma) and mustaches. I love birthday parties and really love making special cakes for the girls. This year I made a tea pot and tea cup cupcakes. These were the easiest cakes I’ve made yet. The tea cups were just jumbo cupcakes with a little handle super glued to the outside of the cupcake liner. Super easy, especially since Matt did the gluing for me! The tea pot was pretty simple as well. I will say that the handle and spout could have been thought out a little bit more but it worked for a short time. I used taffy for the handle and spout. Gravity took its course and they started to droop as soon as I put them on, so I froze them and stuck them on about 5 minutes before the guests arrived. About 30 minutes or so into the party, the spout and handle had had enough and became completely limp. It was fun while it lasted and at least I got pictures of them while they were upright (almost used the word erect there but then realized I used limp in the previous sentence and well….) Anyway, now you know where my head goes at times. Back to the party…I served necktie and magic wand pb&j’s and slipper & tiara rice crispy treats (thanks to my Mother-in-Law!!) I say “I” served but really my mom (decked out in her wedding dress), step dad, Matt (both in white shirts/black pants), and I served them food, hot tea, lemonade, crayons to draw on the table cloth and stickers to decorate their place mats. The kids got to enjoy some chocolate rings, top hats and bow ties as well (once again credit goes to my MIL). I think they all enjoyed themselves. I must say I was impressed by how long they all sat around the table and chatted over tea. All but one ordered hot tea…I’m not sure how many drank it but I know Kyla had 2 cups. That kid loves some hot tea. At the end of the party she said this was the best party she has ever had. She makes things so worth it!!! Rayna of course had a good time too and ate and ate and ate. She absolutely loved that I dressed up for her tea party. Birthdays are so much fun!
Then we had family over for party #2. It’s always fun to sit around and just hang out with the fam. I so wish I saw many of them more. I say many of them not because there’s some I don’t want to see but because some of them I do get to see on a regular basis…had to clarify in case one of y’all reading this was wondering which one I didn’t want to see more. This party was more about family time and food. The cake for this party was hello kitty who looks like she’s about to sneeze b/c I iced the nose on just a little crooked. Good thing my girls are still young enough not to care or even notice my imperfect cake making skills. I will not take that for granted b/c I know before long they will correct every little thing I do and make sure I know when I ice the nose on the cake a little crooked and insist that I start all over. So, the girls had a blast playing with everyone and they love to have family over, as do we. 2 parties in one day was a success!!
